I led production on video features and series that bring FiveThirtyEight’s data-oriented coverage to a wider audience. As the site’s dedicated motion graphics expert, I collaborated across teams to bring the publication’s signature quirky style to its video coverage. I directed film crews, video editors and animators on various projects, created branding and motion graphics for tent-pole features, and helped plan video template designs.

I developed video series and features for publications and organizations with a broad international audience. This included everything from pitching series to budgeting, hiring and directing freelancers, and overseeing the creation of style and branding packages. I frequently took an active role in the production process as well, conducting interviews, filming, editing, and producing motion graphics. For example:• With the Thomson Reuters Foundation, I created a two-part series on a new strategy for conserving nature and wildlife: putting a price tag on them. I led the process from pitch to final publication, budgeting the shoots, hiring a translator and a second videographer, and managing shoots on the field.• With the United Nations Foundation, I led video efforts for a multimedia project about antimicrobial resistance, one of the world’s most pressing threats to public health. I worked with communications staff to strategize the series of videos, helped choose sources to interview, developed shot lists and guidelines for the freelance videographer, and handled post-production.• With Scientific American, I launched a series of topical explanatory videos that span the breadth of the magazine’s coverage. I worked with the executive producer to develop the series’ style and decide on topics to cover, and have worked as the researcher and graphics producer for each episode. I’ve also coordinated with their sister publication, Spektrum, to translate the entire series into German.
