When I was a child, I told my parents I wanted to be a journalist and a musician. Their reaction towards my wish left a lasting impact on my life which in turn motivated me to use everything I gained in law school to start a business that exists for the sole purpose of making sure no child will ever be told to stay away from the creative arts because it is not a sustainable career. The pursuance of a law degree, coupled with my artistic background ignited my interest in IP Law, and the various rights and protections associated with it. This interest has been demonstrated through the establishment of Black Shield Consultancy, a consultancy firm which serves as a brand protection and intellectual property law consultancy firm serving persons in or within the region of Sub-Saharan Africa. Our work includes advising creatives on the various issues concerning their intellectual property, and we have so far assisted in the facilitating of producer and label agreements of several creatives in my country. We have further helped recording artists secure beneficial deals when engaging with prospective labels as well as providing them with advice on issues of music licensing and sync placements. Furthermore, in conjunction with various media houses we have broadcasted various intellectual property rights awareness programs on both radio and television media in Zambia aimed at creating awareness on the value of intellectual property and the need to educate both asset holders and the public on the various intellectual property rights and protections relevant to them or their communities.
