At the intersection of trust and getting things done is a group of people. I am one of them and have evolved from an admin. assistant to an Executive Director working to take ideas and turn them into results. As Ex. Dir. of the Montana Society of CPAs it is my responsibility to work with our members and board to move forward the mission of the organization. I manage our staff and make sure our efforts are focused on our pillars Membership, Sustainability, Connection, Professional Excellence, and Advocacy.My role at OSCPA changed as the Society went through a CEO transition. Making the change from a long time CEO to a leader from another industry was a very interesting experience. My ability to help smooth that transition, both for the new CEO and the organization as a whole, catapulted me into a management role. I collaborate with our internal and external leaders to make sure MSCPA is moving forward on its mission. I make sure our board is engaged during and between our meetings with the information they need to make the best decisions. At the same time I work with staff to formulate and implement our plan of work process.Working at an accounting firm with multiple owners is a balancing act. With two offices and 50 staff we had to be creative to balance providing services of a large firm with the limited resources of a regional firm. I started as an admin. assistant when I left my role included managing the admin. staff and making sure the operations worked so our professional staff could concentrate on their work. A commitment to learning has helped me evolve. I have worked on my ability to present and my session was rated above 4 (on a 5 point scale) by those who attended, it also sold out at multiple locations. At NJE I learned to balance competing interests and negotiate with vendors to provide services we couldn’t accomplish with staff.
