Capstone project sponsored by NASA in which I collaborated with Data Scientists from NASA and experts from Coral Vita in order to build a machine learning pipeline that effectively identifies coral presence and health. Initial results were presented at COP 27 UN Climate Council.• Utilized Google Earth Engine to extract spectral band data from two NASA satellites in order to align these features spatially and temporally with those feature engineered for coral bleaching• Built an XGBoost model to determine coral presence in the Northern Caribbean and Great Barrier Reef resulting in an accuracy of over 96% for the Great Barrier Reef Region and 91% overall• Developed a dashboard using our models to create real time predictions on coral presence and health, allowing coral experts to efficiently pinpoints areas in need of coral farming
