Supporting the team meant responding to quote requests - quickly and efficiently, up-selling and adding value - and getting purchase orders ready for processing. Queries and issues of general or specific nature that came in on the phone or via email were something I dealt with on a daily basis - my strong knowledge of the products we sell meant I could perform this duty with the utmost professionalism and success. I grew this role to include chasing business and closing deals, developing strong working relationships with counterparts at the vendors and resellers with whom we work and generally added more value than the role initially supposed of me. Another crucial responsibility of this role was the care-taking of accounts in the absence of members of the sales team in sickness or on leave. Show less -

This fund was a pot which financed poorer students, research and societies and clubs at Queen Mary amongst other things. Here I built on the telephone skills I had acquired at my previous job, as a much stronger engagement with the people I was contacting was necessary. Common experience of the college was a good starting point, but here I really strengthened my ability to connect with people very quickly over the phone. The campaign went on for a month annually, staffed by only around 40 students of the college and was in my opinion for a very good cause. When I had the privilege of taking part as a caller, we broke our target by a few hundred pounds which was a great success at the time. Show less -

Upon securing a respondent for a survey, the questionnaire could last anywhere from a few minutes to more than half an hour. Keeping the respondent focused and engaged for this period required my constant attention and professional attitude, so for a job that can be overlooked and considered somewhat lowly, it was an excellent starting point for me in the world of work and taught me a lot - most importantly my abilities in communicating with people.
