Lead cross-cutting and placed-based communications, which includes Environmental Defense Fund's Community Engagement, Healthy Communities, Justice & Equity, Legal & Regulatory and Political Affairs teams, ensuring communications resources create the impact necessary to deliver on EDF’s organizational goals. This also includes efforts to build a political consensus for national action on climate change and other issues, advance EDF Action’s political goals, and hold public officials accountable.Rally and align these various disciplines around shared organizational objectives, providing leadership and guidance on how to integrate them to better marry public affairs goals with brand communications. Also play a highly collaborative role in strengthening EDF’s equity and environmental justice communications, including working closely with staff and consultants across EDF and leading the communications teams for Justice & Equity and DEI.

Develop messaging and communications strategies for pushing federal climate and clean energy legislation. Develop and manage communications campaigns and strategies in close coordination with staff and communicators across the organization. Work with field team to promote climate action and spotlight success of congressional investments in clean energy and related issues. Build thought leadership for EDF voices on climate change. Work with scientific team to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of our public communications. Help EDF Action build a higher profile and achieve political and advocacy goals. Work with Digital Marketing Team and Content Team to produce social media, videos, and other products that support our work. Manage communications on legal issues related to EDF Action’s political work. Assist in deepening EDF’s equity and environmental justice communications efforts. Coordinate approvals on sensitive cross-departmental issues. Manage communications staff that work with EDF Action, the US Initiatives Hub, Political Affairs, and the Legal & Regulatory team./

Work with key scientists, attorneys and policy staff to develop and implement communications strategy and messaging for EDF’s clean air, climate and health programs. Manage One Breath Partnership, a Houston Endowment-funded coalition of NGOs and academic partners, and a new Corpus Christi, Texas-based communications collaborative that work upward with communities from the intersection of climate, health and environmental justice to envision a better future for the Gulf Coast. Work with partners and clients in developing coalition strategy and advocacy tactics. Identify potential partnerships with other local organizations to amplify key issues. Develop strategy documents, timelines, budgets, and metrics to determine campaign effectiveness, ensure accountability, and inform future strategy. Engage local and national media through regular interactions, news releases, story pitches and rapid response, resulting in more than 8,000 earned media hits in the first four years of partnership. Produce original content, including investigative journalism, magazine-length features and short documentaries. Direct efforts, featuring live events and social media campaigns, to build public support for a healthier, safer and more just Gulf Coast. Represent marketing and communications department on EDF's Environmental Justice Council. Helped develop DEIJ communications guidelines for the organization.

Covered the environment in the nation’s energy capital. Regularly break stories in print and online and produce front-page enterprise. Topics included air quality, water quality, water use, natural resources, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, drought and environmental justice. Posted news and engage readers on the Chronicle’s energy blog and communicate with followers on Twitter. Named Chronicle’s reporter of the year in 2007 after my investigative series led to the criminal indictment of a university president and the removal of the university’s board of regents by the Texas governor. Awards included first place from the Associated Press Sports Editors for coverage of impact of Hurricane Ike on the bays and estuaries near Houston. Provided media training for the Texas A&M University System and others.
