At Vapor IO, I was responsible for all aspects of the company's global marketing, including branding, communications, and product marketing. I have turned a brand I inherited into an industry powerhouse.Vapor IO's founder and CEO hired me to take his early-stage startup into a completely new market, Edge Computing. Under my leadership, the company has solidified its leadership role and has attracted customers and partners that include the largest infrastructure providers on the planet, including companies like AWS, Google, Microsoft, Cloudflare, Cellnex, American Tower, and CBRE. I delivered outsized results with a combination of truly exceptional thought leadership, strategic messaging, community-building, and analyst and press relations.I co-founded the State of the Edge, a non-profit organization designed to elevate edge computing and become an authoritative source of all things related. Under my leadership, the organization published multiple research reports that helped shape the dialog, create a community and frame the competitive landscape. I founded and am the host of Over the Edge, the #1 podcast focused on Edge Computing.I led creation of the Open Grid Alliance to advocate for a new model of Internet infrastructure, successfully recruiting industry heavyweights that include Crown Castle, Intel, Arm, VMware, Dell, Commscope, and CBRE.I run a very lean operation, and I am constantly asked how I can afford such a large team. I have a high-caliber team of three (including me) that produces the work a team of 20 would have trouble matching.

I ran worldwide marketing for Mesosphere, where I created the Datacenter Operating System (DCOS) category. I was the first-in senior executive, partnering with the CEO and his co-founders to build out the company's organizational structure, product and go-to-market. I joined Mesosphere when the company was 11 employees and mostly stealth. I did early sales and BD, orchestrating Mesosphere's relationship with Verizon (it's largest customer), as well as its most critical cloud partnerships with Amazon, Google and Microsoft. I oversaw all aspects of the company's 2014 launch as a solo marketing team, including mapping out product capabilities, pricing, packaging as well as PR, messaging, website and demo. I created the category "Datacenter OS" and positioned Mesosphere as the leader in that category, successfully de-positioning competitors such as Kubernetes and Docker. Over my 2-1/2 year tenure, I built up a world-class marketing team of 14 people that consisted of AR, PR, events, content, growth, partner marketing and product marketing. I also oversaw the critical relationship with Microsoft, which led to the launching of the Open Source DC/OS (which I also oversaw) as well as the strategic series C financing, in which Microsoft participated.

Svp Marketing, Salesforce Desk.Com

I built and grew the marketing department at Desk.com (formerly Assistly, rebranded as Desk.com when acquired by Salesforce). My team took the company from early organic growth (dozens of new customers added each month) to a high-velocity (thousands of customers per month) using a diversified set of low-cost, high-volume customer acquisition channels, content marketing, SEO, funnel optimization, pricing and packaging strategies (including the introduction of a freemium model), distribution partnerships, and marketing automation. I also drove the company's thought leadership and managed our analyst relations. Desk.com became the leading provider of customer support SaaS tools to small businesses and was acquired by Salesforce in September 2011. I also led the campaign to rebrand the company Desk.com, which led to one of the most successful product launches in all of Salesforce history.
