Currently I work as an operator of a probe corrected Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) at the MESA+ Nanolab at the University of Twente. I measure various specimens (thin films, embedded particles, protein cages, powders and etc.) from a range of disciplines including condensed matter, optics, catalisis, and many more. My PhD research concerned the study of dynamics on surfaces. Two main experimental techniques were involved: Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and Low Energy Electron Microscopy (LEEM). With STM I studied the gold surface and the decanethiol molecule‑modified gold surface. My LEEM research was focused on surface phase transitions on materials such as germanium, copper, and nickel. Additional experimental methods involved were Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES), Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD), and sample preparation including: sputtering, annealing, contact angle measurement, and working with molecule and acid solutions. My masters thesis was entitled "Searching for resistive switching in LaMnO3 films grown with pulsed laser deposition." By using Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD), it is possible to grow thin oxide films which are later used in electrode/oxide/electrode structures. The focus of my thesis was the growth and characterization of LaMnO3‑based structures. The aim of the project was to explore the resistive states in such devices, with the objective to evaluate the applicability of the LaMnO3 oxide for resistive switching. My bachelors project was devoted to a SQUID sensor design. A Superconducting QUantum Interference Device (SQUID) is a device which can measure minute magnetic fields. Therefore, SQUIDs are normally used as magnetic field sensors. My thesis dealt with the design, fabrication, and measurements performed with SQUIDs. The motivation was to investigate the possibilities for designing a SQUID which can be used for the detection of magnetic monopoles.
