About Christopher Westra

I am the Vice President of Opto-Mechanical Engineering at Avegant, a near-eye display technology company that is focused on delivering micro light engines to drive the upcoming generation of AR headsets. Prior to this, I have led the mechanical development of over a dozen projects, mostly wearable systems, to advance technologies such as light field, eye tracking, and steerable foveation. Looking even further back, I led the mechanical product development of Avegant's Glyph, entertainment headset, that we brought to market while building out a top notch team. In addition to management experience I also have strong CAD, drafting, and analysis skills. I have logged over 12000 hours with CAD and FEA software, with the vast majority being Solidworks over the last 15 years. Most of my design experience is in commercial and consumer applications utilizing injection molded or machined aluminum components. I have traveled to China on numerous occasions to supervise tool trials, prototype builds, audit supplier quality, and develop complex molds. In the past I have worked in the Automotive, Defense, and Photography Accessories industries. Also, I am a fan of outdoor adventures big and small. In the past I have taken the opportunity to bicycle from Canada to Mexico on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route as well as the East Coast Bicycle Route.
