I work as an independent scientist, consulting in the minerals, materials, mining and environmental industries and as an editor and project manager. My interests span both natural and industrial materials including cements, metals, engineered clays, stone products, glass and ceramics. My consultancy involves me in many aspects of sustainability and my research is focused on the resource-efficient use of materials in civil engineering, environmental protection and in carbon dioxide reduction.In recent years I have worked as an independent geochemist, as Director of a university research centre and Professor of geomaterials, previously as a Research Manager for MIRO and with several UK universities. I maintain strong links with University College, London, the National Physical Laboratory and Imperial College, London, where am a regular collaborator.
