In Norsk Hydro as Projects Executive Manager, responsible for the Alunorte Fuel Switch a key project to Norsk Hydro aim to be a driver of Sustainability and Profitability.Once we are approaching the completion of project, this has been a very chalenging one. If the convertion of 13 critical equipment in the largest Alumina Refinery in te world, in one year would be hard, we will complete it in less than ten mo.Our team not only delivered, but mitigated several barriers, such as Covid lock down during basic and detailed engineering, significant delay in NG supply - War in Ukrania, pushing for 11 months, much more than anyone could foresee. But by using, since beginning, a strong planning as our backbone, with AWP and LPS combined in an IDP (Colaborative Contracting) environment, proved not only to be a challenge but also the only way to overcome these barriers and challenges. Istead of relying in consultants and EPC´s we´ve adopted an Owners Build management system (owner´s team leading and managing project), a very detailed and well established cost control process, a very early Project Readiness and Commissioning program all backed by a fantastic team, we delivered a successful implementation, reaching project Team purpose and Critical Success factors devised. As result, our project won the Project Controls Expo - UK award in Transformation Project of the Year (2024). A well deserved recognition to a fantastic and dedicated team. A Project Manager since inception of career, I have worked for Alcoa for more than 30 years, having led a large Refinery Expansion (1000+ people during FEL and engineering phase), as well as the plant Capex portfolio program. The Project Portfolio Managament process developed by our Capex group in these previous tenure in Brazil is a real benchmark and has been recognized as this by Primavera technical person that supported us in system update. Then I joined the Ma'aden - Alcoa joint venture in Ras AlKhair as Capex Projects Superintendent, helping the Alumina Refinery team in the start up and ramp up of production until reaching nameplate from 2014. to 2018. I had the incredible opportunity to work and learn with a fantastic group of multi-national project professionals. My goal is to continue developing in this area, facing new challenges and helping my teams and the company to achieve their goals.
