Serves as a Security Assistant with technical functional authority for all security clearances required by specified Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). Is responsible for the acceptance, review, validation, approval or rejection of all Army, Army Reserve and National Guard applicants request for Secret and Top Secret clearance prepared and processed at the MEPS. Knowledge of MOS specific clearance requirements to ensure applicant is screened for proper level of clearance and eligible to continue to in-process. Based on extensive knowledge of rules and regulations and requirements of the position, makes the determination to accept or reject applicants for further processing. If necessary, consults with higher level specialist when determinations are not clear. If clearance is accepted, prepares documentation to obtain security clearance from the granting agency. Ensures all Soldiers are processed fully and accurately for any suitability investigations, eliminating any holdovers at the training base. Utilizes a variety of electronic methods for processing initial entry submissions to the appropriate investigative agency. Tracks and ensures that initial entry suitability and any higher scoped suitability investigations have been accepted by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to provide information for the determination of Soldiers to ship to Initial Active Duty Training (IADT) or to an assignment as scheduled. Prepares End of Month reports reflecting numbers of investigations processed and accepted by OPM and provides recommendations for corrective action or improvement in related process actions and procedures.
