As far as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by changing climates and natural landscapes. The vast difference in geology and landscapes in my country which range from sea shores to deserts and sky high Himalayan mountain range always appealed to me. When I was growing up, I would watch Pakistan tourism development corporation documentaries where they used to travel to all of these different parts of country from deserts to mountains. This spawned in me the desire to know more about the changing anatomy of earth and to select a field where I could learn more about properties of this wonderful planet and also gain valuable knowledge. Naturally, the option I had in front of me was higher education in geography. The study of geography has always held a special position place in my heart. I travelled between planes of Punjab and shores of Karachi many times as I spent many years in Cadet College. I also visited northern areas of Pakistan many times. During my travels I was enchanted by sheer diversity of the land its properties and changing climates. In recent years during my degree in geography I became well versed with the details of geography of our planet and felt deep affection with the carvings and sculptures of nature, and facts about how our lives are changed and affected by the geography. Our lives on a collective scale and as a society must be planned in a way where due importance is given to aspects like coherence with planet’s properties and sustainable resources. I have seen a lot of loop holes in development of infrastructure in developing countries Pakistan is one of them. On many occasions important aspects of sustainable development and planning are not taken in account. The understanding of link between our land, geography and sustainable development cleared vision about my subject in higher education.
