I am a Transfer Pricing Analyst at Doane Grant Thornton LLP (Canada). Ever since starting my role in transfer pricing, I have developed a keen interest in learning more about the niche world of cross-border taxation by studying the OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines, as well as Canadian and U.S. transfer pricing regulations. I enjoy emulating the arm's-length principle into cross-border intercompany transactions to ensure that they are based on market forces, thereby, de-risking the clients from a potential double taxation or a tax reassessment.My main focus within transfer pricing is financial transactions, where I conduct a debt capacity, creditworthiness estimate, and an interest rate analysis to value an intercompany loan at arm's-length. Moreover, I value intercompany intangibles, mainly through a DCF valuation, so that its use by or transfer to a cross-border related entity would be compensated according to the arm’s-length principle. Lastly, I help my clients by drafting contemporaneous transfer pricing documentation to document the reasonable efforts undertaken to determine a transfer price for the intra-group cross-border transactions.I graduated from the University of Ottawa with a BCom in Finance in 2022 and have passed the CFA Level I examination in May 2023. I intend on undertaking the CFA Level II examination in November 2024. In my free time, you will find me reading a book on history, economics, or current affairs. I believe if we understand our history better, we ought not to repeat many of the mistakes we repeatedly make. I love playing football (soccer), squash, and enjoy the occasional horseback riding—with the Arabian horse being my favourite one.
