Muhammad Jagot Work Experience Details
  • Trrc
    Design Engineer
    Trrc Aug 2022 - Present
    Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa
I entered a completely different technical field and within 2 months have become proficient enough to be responsible for the design, monitoring and commissioning of five concurrent solar design projects. My role crosses multiple disciplines and involves all departments at various levels.I assist sales in creating business proposals by analysing Load Profile Data and gathering customer information to recommend a solar system that will cater for energy requirements.I conduct site assessments to ensure preliminary designs are viable and match real life conditions.I then use Helioscope, a Solar Design Simulation application, to create a topographical design that simulates yields. Technical designs and plans are generated on AutoCAD.A Design Pack is generated outlining the installation plans, technical specifications, and site plans. BOQs are generated and stock is procured accordingly. The Design Pack is used in generating a Safety File.I work with our site technicians to oversee the installation and troubleshoot any snags encountered. I then finalise a project by commissioning and completing a municipal power generation application.Throughout the life cycle of a project, as the project lead, I manage and coordinate all facets and I am the primary point of contact with the client to co-ordinate and cater to their requirements.

Ouroboros Systems is a small company that specialises in the retailing of computer hardware as well as offer consultations for the building and installation of crypto-mining rigs. We also offer concurrent services such as creating and managing crypto wallets as well as trading on the users’ behalf.
  • Newspace Systems
    Mechanical Design Engineer
    Newspace Systems Jul 2020 - Feb 2021
    Strand, Western Cape, South Africa
NewSpace Systems specialises in the design and fabrication of navigational systems and components for satellites.I was involved in two major R&D projects whilst with them. The first was the research and development of a Fluid Loop Inertial Actuator. The aim was to replace mechanical actuators that make part of an ADCS (Attitude Determination and Control System) with a magneto-fluid solution for long term durability. I started with researching the technology and suitable materials, generating concept designs and polishing generated CAD designs. Once we finalised the initial design, engineering drawings were generated and the necessary components were fabricated. From there I developed a test-bench setup to accurately measure torque produced and the resulting velocity and inertia, as well as to check if any unexpected drifting (rotational or translational) occurred. For the test-bench I made use of Arduino MCUs and various sensors to wirelessly transmit the data to a connected laptop. I did the programming In C++ myself along with the soldering of the electronic components. The second project I was involved in was the development of square torquer rods. Torquer rods are used in ADCS by utilising the earth’s magnetic field to stabilise itself. Traditionally torquer rods have a circular cross-section, we aimed to see if a more efficient square cross-sectional rod could be designed. For this I helped generate CAD models for multiphysics simulations using COMSOL packages. I also assisted in the research of suitable materials for the final assembly.
  • Astrofica Technologies
    Space Engineer
    Astrofica Technologies Mar 2020 - Feb 2021
Gordons Bay, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa
I was part of a 1-year internship that introduced applicants to the space value chain by having us work on various in-house projects as well as outsourcing us to both space related and non-space related companies. We were given crash courses on orbital dynamics; mission planning; satellite design, manufacturing and launching; project management as well as formulating business cases for prospective clients.H20PE Satellite ConstellationMechanical Design Team LeaderThe main focus of Astrofica Technologies was the design, manufacturing and launch of a cube-sat constellation (mini-satellite array) equipped with hyperspectral cameras to locate and analyse water content across selected geographical areas. Some of the applications of the data yielded and processed were determining crop health, locating new water sources, weather warnings and coal mining viability. My duties as the Mechanical design team leader were to ensure the design followed all specs laid out by the lead systems engineer, safety regulations were followed, to coordinate with other design teams, and deadlines were met. I was involved in generating the CAD model of cube-sat ensuring space restriction, tolerances, and structural integrity were all in line with our project specification. The design was then structurally, thermally and RF spectrum analysed and adjustments were made accordingly. FEA analysis were done in house on frame components that did not have space heritage.
  • Slide Louver
    Mechanical Design Team Leader
    Slide Louver May 2020 - Dec 2020
    Strand, Western Cape, South Africa
Slide Louver is a company that focuses on the design and manufacturing of solar panel equipped blinds installed on buildings to both generate electricity and help regulate internal temperatures by interfacing with the building ventilation system. My duties were to coordinate the team to generate an optimised design for manufacturing. We redesigned the existing motor and chain system as well as overhauled both the louver frame and slate design to optimise the energy collection and sun tracking features. A prototype was then fabricated using generated engineering drawings, and after testing we implemented modifications to the final design.
  • Hypercheck
    Mechanical Engineer
    Hypercheck May 2019 - Aug 2019
    Durban Area, South Africa
My duties were to conduct a process optimization of the Bread Ahead factory by analysing their ordering process, stock, storage, production and dispatch systems. Problem areas were identified in a report which provided recommendations on increasing productivity and reducing labour costs while maintaining quality. I was then required to conduct financial analysis and verification of financial information being provided. Data was retrieved from Sage Pastel and the in-house stock management system and compared. A report was provided with findings which were further investigated. Thereafter, I worked with a Senior Engineer in developing an ERP system for the company. This involved the analysis of the different Business processes and departments within the organisation. Through this, protentional automation areas were identified. Functional requirements, tied in with business requirements, were generated and recommendations to fulfil these requirements were developed. Quotes were then obtained and a formal proposal, including an implementation and monitoring plan, will be presented to the CEO for approval. Lastly, I have been tasked with a Solar Energy Feasibility report for several of the Hypercheck stores. Technical research on solar technology was done to gain an understanding of the requirements for implementation. Site visits were done to determine if there was adequate solar exposure and floor space, as well as to understand the power requirements and inspect the electrical framework. Once potential sites were investigated a feasibility study was done, including identification of service and component providers, and a Return of Investment period was determined. My recommendation was to outsource the implementation of solar energy to a specialist company whilst following guidelines from my feasibility report to ensure actual costs were in line with expected costs.
