CurrentDuties and Responsibilities.•Perform a variety of tests on body fluid and tissue samples. Types of tests include analyzing blood and urine and identifying organisms from the body.•Utilize equipment that ranges from simple to complex.•Utilize sophisticated laboratory equipment to look for bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms•Analyze the chemical content of fluids•Matching blood for transfusions•Testing for drug levels in the blood to show how a patient is responding to treatment•Phlebotomy may be required•Confer with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation.•Utilize standard procedures t the maintenance of positive patient identification, record appropriate collection information of proper requisitions.•Prepare, process, label and store patient specimens and samples according to facility procedures using standard techniques and equipment.•Performs all duties promptly in a competent and caring manner•Maintain good working relations and communication among patients/residents and all healthcare personnel•Present a neat appearance and dress in compliance with the client facilities’ policies•While on assignment, the Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible and accountable to their assigned patients and to the client institution.
