- Developed a proof-of-concept (POC) for carbon value assessment for a major fertilizer client. This involved measuring the impact of product carbon footprint (PCF) across jurisdictions including Japan and Netherlands. The PCF was modeled using a life cycle analysis (LCA) cradle-to-gate approach within the ammonia production units. Whereas the regulatory analysis included the carbon tax mechanisms such as EU CBAM and national subsidies. This formed the basis of the impact on the client's products and appreciating the potential market mix for their product as a POC.- Formulated an MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) Framework for a major MENA power and utilities industry in alignment with ISO 14064-1, 2, 3, Transition Plan Taskforce, GHG Protocol, NDC to streamline their GHG accounting, governance, compliance, and reporting.

- Developed decarbonization strategy for a major power and utilities client. Considered renewable energy mix targets, global trends, and SBTi. Aligned emissions reduction with the expansion plan and recommended technologies through a MACC analysis. Developed CAPEX and OPEX frameworks to support implementation.- Presented a comprehensive analysis of a 3-year HSSE business transformation to the board of directors of a large power and utilities client. Utilized extensive KPIs, and process-related documentation to assess maturity levels using EY's HSE Maturity Model. Conducted benchmarking against regional and global peers and showcased successful project outcomes. Demonstrated operational excellence in generation, distribution, and transmission using their existing frameworks while identifying areas for improvement.- Assessed approximately 45 circular carbon technologies for a major $10B fund aimed at driving investments in key technologies, and globally promoting the concept and capacity around CCE. This involved analyzing key dimensions such as Marginal Abatement Cost Curves (MACCs), carbon markets, technologies maturity, geographical perspectives and regulatory drivers for a government entity in KSA.

- Supported in developing an offsetting strategy via carbon neutrality based on PAS2060 framework including credits quality assessment, reputational risk considerations, associated GHG footprint model verification across the life cycle of commodities including scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions based on International Commercial Terms (Incoterms) for cargoes in alignment with international standards such as ISO14064, ISO14067, PAS2050 and GHG protocol and engaged multiple stakeholders during this process.- Supported an energy holding company, aluminum smelter and steel manufacturing in Bahrain and Qatar with formulating an ESG policy and framework in line with global standards such as GRI. Activities included creating an implementation roadmap, benchmarking against peers and national commitments, conducting materiality assessment of portfolio companies with varying ESG maturity, establishing baseline metrics and improving data availability, consistency and timeliness to support informed ESG decision-making.- Assisted energy clients in UAE and KSA with GHG emissions and HSE KPIs verification by conducting extensive data analysis and developing GHG accounting frameworks and workshop training materials. Followed ISAE 3000 for risk assessment, strategy implementation, quality assurance, and provided final assurance statements, management letters, and sustainability recommendations.- Supported in developing an energy management system (EnMS, EnPIs, SEUs) for ISO 50001 and assisted in training & supported on certification audit process.

- Performed Techno Economic Assessments and Life Cycle Analysis of various high TRL carbon utilization start-ups including Solidia, Carbon8, CarbonCure and others for value-added chemicals like calcium and magnesium carbonates aligned with TotalEnergies business portfolio for potential partnerships / investments- Optimized decarbonization solutions via mathematical CCUS network models between various carbon abatement technologies (Methanol, Urea, Sequestration) and mapped carbon emissions and industrial wastes in Qatar- Conducted technology intelligence on carbon mineralization technologies, evaluated based on SWOT analysis for company’s business units and compiled as a handbook that highlights the opportunities and complexities for an improved decision making about carbon management and presented in ACS – Qatar conference- Coordinated the on-going research projects with Texas A&M University at Qatar: (1) Natural gas conversion to platform chemicals, (2) Plastics recycling, and (3) Carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) networks optimization

To identify optimal catalysts for dry methane reforming, an important industrial process for synthesis gas production, I utilized unsupervised machine learning techniques using Python to analyze reaction kinetic parameters including activation energy (Ea), pre-exponential factor (A), and reaction order (n). This work showcased the potential to significantly impact the field of catalysis by accelerating the development of more efficient and cost-effective catalysts for a variety of industrial processes.

- Produced a critique article on the reporting of mathematical kinetic models of low carbon processes (direct methane conversion) for an international journal which identifies common pitfalls and errors in the modeling and simulations landscape and proposes the way forward for authors for publishing the results- As an effort to decarbonize existing energy generation units and produce low-carbon based fuels, developed a novel methodology to thermally integrate direct methane conversion reactions – Oxidative & Non-oxidative Coupling of Methane – in a single reactor design and presented in various international conferences (AICHE – USA, CR-24 – Italy, CHISA – Czech Republic, ACS – Qatar)- As part of the project on direct conversion of methane to platform chemicals, my responsibilities included conducting literature reviews, creating a research plan, writing and publishing research articles, developing mathematical models, assisting with laboratory administration, and delivering regular progress updates to both internal and external stakeholders- Supported lectures on Process Safety Engineering and Bioprocess Engineering by facilitating student learning through homework preparation and grading, office hours, and reference material sharing. Additionally, managed classroom dynamics by administering exams and providing constructive feedback to improve academic performance.

Led operations and engineering team for Ammonia plant with power and utilities, Boilers, Demineralized water and Cooling Water facility safely as per operating license / regulatory compliance and optimized the units within the available budgetary constraints for smooth plant operations, safe startups, shutdowns and emergency handling. Key projects handled include:- As a taskforce member, successfully performed debottlenecking of the reforming section (115% to 125%) through the installation of a pre-reformer in collaboration with Haldor Topsoe team by assessing current plant equipment performance, identifying DBN areas, presenting recommendations for budget approval, and overseeing project execution, resulting in a successful outcome with an IRR of 27% at a cost of $17.3M- Troubleshot capacity limitation of MDEA based CO2 removal system at higher plant loads due to lower regeneration temperature of Stripper, 88C instead of 98C - decreased gradually over the last 10 years. This was done by extensive data analysis, literature survey, brainstorming, backward elimination methods, simulations and steps to avoid recurrence in future- Improved process condensate recovery by saving 14 tons/hr ($305K/yr) thru fixing distillation column flooding problem which was draining/overflowing from column operating at 142% of design load - Proposed a feasible solution to ground water reservoir depletion issue by recovering sewage & industrial waste water utilizing clarifier & existing plant equipment (project cost $5.5 million)

During my internship, I gained hands-on experience in NitroPhosphate production processes, specifically in the NP and CAN Sections. - In the NP Section, I received training on rock phosphate storage and handling, rock dissolution, inert separation, crystallization, filtration, neutralization, evaporation, and prilling. In the CAN Section, my training focused on CN pre-neutralization, AN synthesis, CC precipitation, lime filtration, AN evaporation, and lime drying. - Additionally, I conducted an operational study on equipment such as conveyor belts and safety controls, tripper cars, screw centrifuge separation, loss-in-weight batching systems, filter bags, crystallizers, falling film evaporators, pressure filters, and prilling towers.

The training involved a comprehensive understanding of ammonia production processes, including front and back-end operations, material balance analyses, plant layout, and operational processes. It also involved a basic study of pumps and compressors, including mechanical parts, working principles, and operational issues.

Gained knowledge and experience in various aspects of chemical engineering, including a basic understanding of polymerization units, safety protocols, and the LDPE and LLDPE production processes. Additionally, was involved in a PSV design project for a fire case scenario.
