Goby was featured by Apple in the iTunes store and was a #1 ranked Travel app, used by millions of people. Goby won a variety of awards including Top Emerging Innovator at Phocuswright 2010, Always On Top 100 East Coast Private Company, OnMedia Top 100 Company and others.Responsible for the design and development of the backend of Goby, a semantic local search engine.Designed and implemented the internals of the contextual search engine, developing proprietary algorithms and machine-learning techniques, as well as leveraging the Lucene search engine and the Postgres database.Designed and developed a recommendation system for things to do.Designed and developed proprietary crawlers to crawl 1000s of sites, and parsers that translate unstructured information from those web sources to structured information searchable on Goby. Developed a high-performance triple extractor that produces structured information from unstructured human authored web documents about entities such as people, locations, companies. E.g. given the name of a person, the system would generate facts about that person using web search results using techniques such as entity resolution, anaphora resolution, sentence splitting, shallow parsing.Developed the backend of a search engine (Morpheus) that performed federated queries across web forms in real time.Developed a general purpose crawler and multiple PL/Java extractors to scrape unstructured information from web.
