Capstone is the most important class in the University of Tulsa’s Petroleum Engineering curriculum because students are expected to split up in teams of 5 people and apply their knowledge in the areas of reservoir, production, drilling engineering, geology and computer programming skills to practical design problems based on real field data with all of the associated limitations and uncertainties.In this class, our group was assigned a reservoir project provided by Samson Resources where we were expected to pick and evaluate most suitable locations to drill four horizontal wells in Madisonville, Texas. By analyzing the geological and production data from depleted nearby wells we came up with estimates of amount of recoverable oil and economics that proved to be uneconomical due to the rate of return, which did not satisfy the investors. Consequently, we have successfully prevented Samson Resources from losing their profit. Besides the engineering part of the project we were also expected to do weekly reports for the supervisor from the Samson Resources. In these reports we stated team member work contribution, what was accomplished from past week and what our goals were for next week. Moreover, we did weekly in class oral presentation that propose economically feasible and environmentally sound strategies of successful completion of project for the given data set.

Provided assistance to a graduate student in modeling and conducting experiments for the two phase flow of fluids in vertical pipe at the University of Tulsa’s research facilities. Measuring flow’s velocities and effects of capillary pressure using special slow motion cameras. Results of the experiments were tables for different patterns of flow that behave and change accordingly to certain pressure, velocities, and gas compositions.
