This role involved working with Community Housing Organisation in Yarraville that provided secure and affordable rental housing in the Western and Northern suburbs for low and middle income families and individuals.Duties: Processed general tenancy enquires, applications and sign ups. Maintained clients’ database including Chintaro/Coda. Prepared and processed VCAT application for “breach of tenancy agreement”. Developed and nurtured collaborative relationships with members and organisations working in this area.

The required providing advice to the engagement of consumers, carers and the community and the integration of their perspective into all levels of health service operations, planning and policy development.Duties: Advised on the improvements to and promotion of community participation in health services. Identified issues that affected refugee and migrants and hard to reach communities in accessing health services. Provided community perspective to the planning and quality improvement Assisted with the design and development of community engagement plans

Wellington & Wairarapa, New Zealand

This was four months contract that involved working with over 14 African communities and conducting research about the provision of appropriate healthcare services to CALD communities. I have undertaken over eight focus groups, four group interviews, and 240 completed survey questionnaires. Duties: Undertook consultations with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to promote equity in health and the delivery of culturally relevant services. Conducted research that depicted gaps in service delivery and provided information needed to develop appropriate healthcare for CALD communities. Being responsible for the day-to-day activities of the research project in Wellington.

I have worked as a Research Advocate for 22 months and this involved contributing to refugee-focused research and supporting community-based research projects. I have worked in a multi-disciplinary team to develop action plans that identified and highlighted services needed to support CALD to resettle successfully. This required working in an empowering and strengths focused manner in building the capacity of individuals and communities from refugee-backgrounds. Carried out refugee focused research projects that aimed to provide evidence to issues, and to effect change to policy and service delivery. Delivered workshops to build community capacities of people from CALD backgrounds  Worked collaboratively and in partnership with Departments of Health, Labour and Social Services and NGOs to develop tailored services to improve settlement outcomes for CALD communities.  Published two reports annually, and contributed to submissions, strategic plans as well as effective evaluation of projects
