The search for learning, experiences, the desire to engage and learn from people, nurture talent, build, strengthen organisations and institutions have been the driving forces in my career thus far. The experience of working with commercial organisations taught me value for money and time. As also the ability to quickly grasp key issues critical to effective implementation. The assignments with Indian Hotels and then with DLF Home Developers Limited, provided opportunity to work on different locations, with different teams, situations and for a diversity of outcomes. This has created ability to be effective in diverse situations and assignments. The experience of working with the development sector brought me close to issues vital to the progress and growth of the nation. It has helped develop leadership skills and the ability to make the best of available resources, strengthening the belief that the best means of growth come from within. That change in a given situation will come with the change in beliefs of stakeholders, driving existing outcomes. Working in the sector has also filled me with hope, specially when it comes to the abilities of people to change, grow and deliver, when convinced and aligned with goals. In terms of lasting contributions, have had a critical role in the commissioning of the Taj Bengal in Calcutta, in '89 and the Taj Mahal Hotel In Lucknow in '93. DLF Home Developers Limited commissioned two projects in Lucknow, during my stint with them. The first a 250 acre (approximately), housing project and an approximately 1 million S/Ft. commercial project in the heart of the city, later converted to a housing project. In the development sector, have had a major contribution in the setting up of a farmers cooperative in Garhwal, that now successfully provides livelihoods to close to 7000 persons. Am also gratified to note that the Ushamath Mahila Mahasangh, possibly the largest and among the only successful microfinance institutions operating in mountainous regions of Uttarakhand, was commissioned and nurtured during my tenure. In terms of learning perhaps it is my ten year stint with the education sector that has given me the most. It has brought me closest to the issues that today hold back this nation from achieving its potential and the extreme commitment and effort it is going to take to ensure development of our human capital, which alone can ensure success in the coming years. The years of work have given me a desire to share, given back and nurture, individuals and institutions, which I now seek to do.
