I completed my Engineering Officer Cadetship at City of Glasgow College sponsored by Carnival UK. The Engineering Cadetship was incorporated with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the Scottish Qualifications Authority for a Foundation Degree in Marine Engineering (Foundation Degree/Scottish Professional Diploma). With a great success throughout my cadetship, I graduated with a SPD in Marine Engineering and was awarded for the Best Engineering Cadet of the Year. MCA Engineering Cadetship is structured in five phases. Phases 1, 3 and 5 are based shoreside at City of Glasgow College Riverside where engine cadets develop both their theoretical and practical skills. The following courses are few of many subjects which were completed during the college phases:• Applied Mechanics• Applied Thermodynamics• Electrical Distribution Systems• Naval Architecture, Ship Construction and Survey• Pneumatics and Hydraulics System• Communication and Leadership• Engineering Mathematics• MCA Workshop SkillsPhase 2 and 4 are sea phases. During the sea phases, I was placed onboard two of Carnival UK ships to understand and develop my knowledge as a trainee engineer/ cadet. For Phase 2, I was onboard P&O Cruises Azura and Cunard Queen Mary II for phase 4. During my time onboard, I was involved with the Engineering Department onboard learning and completing my MNTB Training Record Book. I was shadowing the engineer officers onboard to understand and develop my engineering knowledge. The following were few of many tasks which I completed as an Engine Cadet during my sea phases:• Engine Watchkeeping by shadowing the 3rd Engineer Officer • Tracing system diagrams• MNTB Training Record Books• Involvement in Drills • Assist engine department with engine room maintenance• Learning AMOS (Carnival UK’s Planned Maintenance System)• Assist Engine officers with Fuel Bunkering
