Where once I was the only employee and jack of all trades, I became an Editor with a myriad of skills in a rapidly developing boutique posthouse.I began with my duties split between editing and being a go-to assistant to the senior editors within the company. I was office tech support, managed all media, troubleshot the servers, assistant edited, shot construction timelapses, managed equipment, assisted on film shoots, directed contest spots, learned dozens of new softwares and systems, got lunches, answered phones, opened and closed the office, and of course, edited. 18 months of long nights and weekends later, Mad Hat had doubled in size, and my role within it was refined to simply, Editor (and occasional Digitial Imaging Technician). This allowed me to carve out my identity, hone my craft, and develop my style. I concluded my time armed with an arsenal of skills, as well as the desire to hit the gas on all aspects of their development.

Duties included production and post-production work for Emmy Award-winning television show, The Peak, as well as several locally aired shows. Other projects included documentary, commercial, and live event video content.I began as an intern, was hired part time two weeks later, and then full time six months after that. My initial position was a production intern which afforded me the opportunity to run camera and shoot B-roll for segments of The Peak. Once hired part time, I began editing the segments and was given a fair amount of control over the content. As a full time employee, I became an authoritatively trusted member of the team -- I implemented several organizational systems, taught myself motion graphics, and was given editorial work from all aspects of the company. I was relied on heavily for my graphical abilities, my work was expected to be excellent, and I directed an Emmy nominated commercial for PPL Electric.

This position afforded me the opportunity to test and learn a variety of film, DV, HDV, and HD cameras and their mounts.The primary tasks in the equipment cage involved checking film equipment in/out for students, evaluating/addressing any issues upon its return, instructing students on proper assembly/operation of the same, and was called upon to teach tutorials on a new steadicam system to students and faculty.

Over three years I expanded my abilities from stocking shelves and janitorial services to managerial and maintenance responsibilities.The position I was hired for involved stocking shelves, bagging groceries, and mopping floors. I demonstrated my ability as a quickstudy and learned to cashier and close out the night, as well as make minor repairs around the store. By the end of my time at Big Star (owned now by Harps), I was called upon to cashier, manage/work in every department, open the store, handle customer complaints, pay bills, repair the roof/generators, and was trusted absolutely with many responsibilities. Aside from running the store, there wasn't a job within it I couldn't do.
