I am a doer, a maker, a leader. I am a Six Sigma Black Belt. Over the last 24 years, I have helped clients and agencies bring innovation and rigor to their practice. Clients range from megacorps to non-profits, and a wide range in between. I am happiest when I am working on enterprise-level service design projects, experience overhauls, and bringing health and happiness to design and engineering teams. I run a tight ship and have zero tolerance for bad behavior, convoluted architecture, short-sighted data models, sloppy writing, or dead weight. Healthy teams lead to the very best work of our lives — it is what makes or breaks us.On any given project, I am deeply involved from inception to release, and have been described as the unrelenting force that holds the entire project and its people together. I live in New York City with my husband Matthew, and my two children, Owen (15) and Alastair (13). When I am not with them, I do humanitarian work at the border for men, women, and children escaping extreme violence. I believe in giving back, every day.I graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Cognitive Science and Human Behavior, from USC with an M.S.Ed in Curriculum and Instructional Design, and from Columbia University in Systems Analysis and Software Engineering, with a special focus on logical database design. I teach Leadership, Ethics, and Professional Practice in the MFA program for Interaction Design at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). I am a guest lecturer at various design schools, teaching seasoned teams how to operate with both efficiency and humanity. Yes, you can have both.

It was built in 1920 and was almost beyond repair. We are carefully restoring it as time and money permits. We host political events and non-profit events in the loft space upstairs. In 2020 and 2021, we had a bicycle shop in the large space downstairs. By January 2023, we’ll have a newly insulated 1200 sf space with a bakery, local farm products, coffee shop, and wine shop. Each shop is independently owned and operated. We are thrilled to be an incubator for talented young women who are ready to pursue their passion and become entrepreneurs. That’s the spirit! -

Science Teacher And Department ChairJohn Adams Middle School Jan 1998 - Feb 2000John Adams Middle School is located in one of the country’s toughest neighborhoods: South Central L.A. I taught 8th grade science (intro to physics, intro to chemistry, intro to earth science), and imbued hope and discipline in my 180 students. I ran my classroom like a drill sergeant then. I run my projects like a drill sergeant now. In the midst of social chaos and teenage angst, my classroom was a haven. I was lauded as one the most charismatic teachers to walk into the school in the last decade, and was elected chair of the science department to turn around the teachers and curriculum in a school that had been disregarded as the "worst in LA Unified School District". I did a complete overhaul of the science program, replenished laboratory materials, and won $112,000 in educational grant monies. As a first-year teacher, I was paid $33,000 per year. I could not afford rent payments or car payments and burned out after two years. It is still the most memorable and fulfilling experience of my career.
