About Alfredo Muniz
Alfredo Muniz is the co-founder and CTO of XEED, a startup that brings wearable tech, robotics, and big data together to accelerate the development of new treatments and improve the way people live with Parkinson's disease. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2016 with a B.S.E in Electrical Engineering and an M.S.E in Robotics. During his time at the University of Pennsylvania, Muniz founded the Wireless Club to bring SDR experimentation to traditional amateur radio activities. As club President, he contributed to the free and open-source GNU Radio project by writing Guided Tutorials that lower the barrier to entry for beginners. At PCH International Lime Lab, Muniz was responsible for the electrical and firmware design of many products ranging from the Amazon Fire TV Stick to high-accuracy, automated, beauty product dispensers for L’Oreal. As part of the XEED team, Muniz works to not only push his limits but also exceed them while helping others do the same.Personal Note:I am a robotics enthusiast, traditional hacker, hardware guy, and tech entrepreneur with experience in designing and integrating complex hardware and diverse software into multidisciplinary projects. As I did for Google Summer of Code, I am able to take a crazy theory in academia, apply it in practice, and effectively communicate the findings in a research paper. At the same time, as I did for PCH Lime Lab, I can bring sketched ideas on napkins, refine them, and prepare them for mass production. I work best with others and my favorite moments come from group discussions with people from various backgrounds. I enjoy contributing to open source projects and building various devices in the lab at home to keep up with the latest technology. I live an active lifestyle frequently exercising and cooking healthy meals. For more information on my interests and experience please visit my portfolio at http://muniza.github.io.

Co-Founder & Cto
CurrentFull-Body Tracking Simplified (2021 - Present):Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Reality (AR), collectively XR, is growing every year and is expected to be ubiquitous in a few years. Full-body tracking is described as the best accessory for XR by social media influencers and sees widespread use in popular games such as VRChat and Beat Saber. XEED developed patent-pending technology that enables high-accuracy rivaling Lighthouse Trackers while remaining lightweight and low-cost. The experience is completely plug-and-play, eliminating the need for a user to install drivers, and only requires a single USB cable to charge all the Trackers. The Link collates all the Tracker packets and can output the data via USB HID, BLE, or WiFi to enable a wide range of applications via the open API. Government Contractor - DARPA (2018 - 2021):DARPA contracted XEED to use their wearable technology and experience to aid the performers in the Warfighter Analytics Using Smartphones for Health (WASH) program. The main idea was to use the XEED wearable data acquired from various parts of the body as a cost-effective ground-truth measurement to determine whether a cell phone in the pocket can produce similar biometric results. The outcomes include providing a warfighter readiness score and detecting the spread of infectious disease. This required building state-of-the-art data analysis models using AI and ML techniques. Wearables for Parkinson's (2016 - 2018):Parkinson's Disease affects over 6 million people worldwide. There is no cure and not enough is known about the disease to optimally administer treatment to each individual. Although there have been advances in drugs such as levodopa and physical therapy regimens like LSVT BIG, there is still no accurate way to measure their effects and benefits. XEED brings wearable tech, robotics, and big data together to accelerate the development of new treatments and improve the way people live with Parkinson's.
