Awarded the President's Award for outstanding academic and leadership achievements during my Computer Applications bachelor's at Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology (GPA 3.9), I am now pursuing a Master’s in Data Science. My academic journey, deeply rooted in AI and machine learning, is passionately aimed at applying these technologies to tackle global health challenges, particularly those linked to climate change. A significant part of my motivation stems from a volunteer experience in 2019 with Omdena and the UN Refugee Agency. Working alongside 36 AI enthusiasts from 21 countries, we developed a solution to predict forced displacement and violent conflict due to climate anomalies in Somalia. This project became a powerful and personal mission, inspiring me to use AI to address the challenges faced by my country, Somalia, which suffers significantly from climate change-related issues.A significant milestone in my academic path was a three-month study visit to the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in South Africa in 2024, where I enhanced my expertise in Machine Learning and mathematics. Prior to this, I undertook a one-month research visit in 2023 at the JBS Innovation Lab at Johannesburg University, South Africa, focusing on how to conduct rigorous research in Artificial Intelligence applications. These experiences, coupled with enriching engagements with Microsoft, Facebook AI, and UNDP Somalia, solidify my commitment to utilizing AI in addressing health and environmental issues.Eager to join a research team, I am looking for opportunities to contribute my skills in machine learning to study the effects of climate change on global health. My ambition is to engage in work that has a lasting impact on communities worldwide.
