Dra. Natalie Muñoz is a dynamic AfroLatina Assistant Professor and captivating speaker. She began her academic career last fall 2023 in the College of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University Newark's Social Work Department. However, she has dedicated the last 20 years to fostering inclusivity, advancing graduation rates and success of underserved students on college campuses.Her academic journey is marked by a commitment to empowering Black and Latinx communities. A proud double alumna of Stony Brook University, Dra. Muñoz earned her bachelor's degree in psychology and her master's in social work with a specialized focus on student community development. She furthered her academic pursuits by obtaining her Ph.D. from Howard University, a Historically Black College and University in Washington, DC, where her passion for equity and advocacy flourished.Dra. Muñoz's research interests center around AfroLatine identity development, migrant trauma, mental health equity, and educational justice. Notably, her dissertation, "Soy de Aqui y de Alla: Exploring how Historically Black Colleges and Universities contribute to ethnic/racial identity and mental health of AfroLatino (a,e,x) college students," earned her recognition as a second-place finalist for Outstanding Dissertation of the Year by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education.Dra. Muñoz radiates empowerment, weaving authenticity, sisterhood, and community into the fabric of her leadership. Her impactful presentations have reached diverse audiences, spanning middle schools, high schools, colleges, hospitals, and corporate settings, totaling hundreds of workshops and keynote speeches. She is frequently sought after to address a wide array of topics encompassing AfroLatinx identity, mental health, educational justice, interpersonal dynamics, diversity, equity and inclusion, wellness, social justice issues, Black and Latinx empowerment/solidarity, professional development, and academic success, among other pertinent subjects. Her unapologetic leadership allows her to celebrate her curls, curves, Spanglish, and AfroLatinidad, while setting a vibrant example for others to follow. Her fierce dedication to amplifying diverse voices and challenging systemic barriers cements her as a trailblazing force, not just in academia, but in every corner of the world she touches.
