Colin Murphy is a Director of Research and Consulting at Shared-Use Mobility Center at Shared-Use Mobility Center. He possess expertise in editing, copy editing, publishing, publications, public policy and 16 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "It is my pleasure to recommend Colin Murphy who served from June 2009 to February 2010 under my direct supervision as an urban planner and public policy intern in the Transportation and Community Development program at the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT). Colin first came to CNT as an intern through his master’s program. While that formal affiliation lasted only through the summer, he stayed with us far beyond the time required for academic credit. We have since used him as an editorial consultant on several CNT publications, and have contracted with him to handle communications and policy work as needed. In all these capacities, he has demonstrated passion for his work and a dedication to quality. Colin’s main responsibility was completing the analysis for and authoring the CNT report Making Ends Meet, but he also handled smaller projects as needed. He took the lead in drafting CNT comments to the Federal Railroad Administration for rulemaking on High Speed Rail. He prepared feedback on draft notices of funding availability for HUD grant programs. He attended board meetings of regional planning and transit agencies and summarized proceedings to keep CNT staff current. Throughout his time with us, he showed a knack for juggling many tasks and bringing each to a timely conclusion. For Making Ends Meet, Colin proved to be a quick study on our Housing + Transportation (H+T) Affordability Index, thanks to his attention to detail and effort to comprehend the model’s inputs and outputs. He excels at doing the background qualitative research, literature searches and interviews necessary to ground his understanding of a region and the policy actors operating there. Just as important, he demonstrated a thorough understanding of the H+T model, relied on the data to frame the analysis, and elevated CNT’s practice through his synthesis of key findings, ability to distill messages from an abundance of data, and concern for a presentation that conveys those messages effectively. Because of his easygoing personality, inquisitive nature and high standards, he also forged strong bonds with the Research staff (the group producing H+T data and maps), resulting in a smoother collaborative relationship among programs. Colin’s attention to detail and discipline were apparent in all his work, from probing the methodology and formulae underpinning the H+T model, to researching statutes and administrative structures related to public transit, housing affordability, and many other issues. He seeks guidance when stymied but is largely independent and a self-starter. Colin displays a singular aptitude for assimilating information from many sources to reach conclusions. The practical experiences of his internship and ongoing relationship with CNT, coupled with his editorial experience, will make Colin an asset anywhere in the field of urban planning and public policy, from the local to the national level. I endorse him without reservation.", "Colin reported directly to me for several years. His contributions to product development were outstanding. Colin excels at project organization, management and execution. He also has an eye for project details and is able to understand complex program requirements and workflows. In addition to his project management skills, Colin excels at team work, collaborating and maintaining excellent relationships with colleagues. Colin would be a valuable addition to any organization.", and "Colin worked with me on the Grade 10 team for the Texas edition of Glencoe Literature. He was responsible for writing and editing content for the literature lessons in this book. Colin was an extremely conscientious and dedicated team member. Even under very tight deadlines, he paid close attention to detail and state standards compliance. He always maintained a positive attitude and never complained about working long hours to meet the deadlines. Colin was a great member of the team and I enjoyed working with him."
