M J Baber & Company Ltd., was formed in 1980. During this period Murray won a UDC Inventor of the year award and the Prince Phillip Industrial Design award. Note: The Securichain project featured in a book on Kiwi ingenuity “No 8 Wire” by Jon Bridges and David Downs, and in another book “101 Ingenious Kiwis” by Tony Williams.In 1984 M J Baber & Company Ltd formed a company with Interlock Industries Ltd the joint venture was named Interlock Securicraft Ltd. In 1997 Interlock Group bought the company and Murray became a shareholder and executive director of Interlock. For further information on Interlock see “Created To Innovate” published in 2001.Assa Abloy the world leader in electro mechanical locking products bought The Interlock Group in September 2001. Murray remained with the company until the end of 2004.While Murray’s primary business interest has been the development and marketing of new and existing products, his seven years with Interlock has allowed him to develop a greater understanding of good corporate governance, the new product development process, project planning, the importance of forecasting, “Just In Time” manufacturing and as a “coach,” the importance of understanding and developing people within the organisation.Business in the Community mentoring has been an interest for Murray and he has worked with a number of North Shore companies.Foundation member of Takpuna North Rotary Club – formed in 1980, president in 1981. Awarded a Paul Harris Award in 2003. Trustee of the North Shore Life Education Trust. In 2005 Baber LSC Ltd a joint venture, was formed to develop, import, export and distribute products mainly in the hardware, architectural and security product area. Murray remained with the company until the end of May 2011.Currently June 2011 BBH Design Ltd was formed with the aim of developing innovative architectural and security products that can be sold locally and overseas but with the emphasis on export markets.
