I'm a highly experienced R&D engineer and manager. I enjoy the problem solving process of designing and building real products and systems. This includes creating IP but also strategies for de-risking projects, and practical considerations such as memory, CPU and protocol limitations. I also believe strongly in respect for data and the early consideration of design for continuous improvement.I have a strong design ethic favouring elegance, simplicity and circumnavigating problems. I am an inventor on over 40 US patents and have worked on designs with very different constraints from earbud chips, to smartphones and server based systems many of which have been incorporated into products.

I led an R&D team of 5 working on a diverse range of algorithmic and system projects including:•Systems and algorithms for indoor positioning (IoT and mobile)•Frameworks for deploying ML models on small chips•MEMs Sensor Algorithms•Spatial Audio•Bluetooth Angle of ArrivalMany of these projects have been utilised in Qualcomm's Voice and Music chips and/or in the Snapdragon chipset. A highlight of working at Qualcomm was the chance to collaborate with a wide range of talented technical and business partners.

I was responsible for the algorithms and system aspects for CSRs terrestrial positioning technologies covering aspects from firmware to server including inventing novel techniques to bootstrap deep indoor positioning from crowd sourced information.

I developed a number of new algorithms and technologies including EGPS-lite a method for maintaining high quality fine-time aiding for GNSS in unsynchronized mobile networks. I also wrote design tools that were used for the rapid assessment of different GNSS search strategies.
