I'm passionate about front-end/UI development and love solving the human-centred challenges that it presents.Since 2022, I've been a Senior Front-End Engineer at Appnovation, working on a wide range of projects, from boutique microsites to multinational web apps. I'm part of a Jamstack-focused Creative Tech team, as well as being an accessibility SME for the EMEA region. I love the variety of work I get to be a part of. From becoming proficient in information architecture with modern content platforms (Contentful, Sanity.io), to creating AI-backed interfaces (Anthropic, OpenAI), to diversifying my coding experience with Astro.js, Next.js, Remix, and even some Python, there's always new things to learn.Prior to Appnovation, my career began with Synertec Ltd. Between 2015-2018, I transitioned from second-line support to becoming a member of their development team, working on internal programming standards and greenfield accessibility software for the NHS.In 2018 I moved to London and refocused on the web. At Talent Point, I rapidly diversified my front end skill set, whilst building on my prior experience in digital strategy, content editorial, and UX. I developed a company portal with React; migrated our sites to Craft CMS; launched Growable, a Gatsby/GraphQL based events platform; line-managed the Content Team; oversaw all content creation; and helped build the new company website as part of our 2019 rebrand.During 2020, I joined STech as a Front-End Engineer, helping to enhance and support their core websites whilst expanding my knowledge of Jamstack technologies such as Next.js, GraphQL, TypeScript, React Testing Library, Cypress, Storybook, and Chromatic. I also attended courses in animation (GSAP) and accessibility. During 2021, I led development on the "Supernova" design system, working closely with the Design team to create a set of accessible components and flexible design standards that could be rolled out company-wide.That project highlighted how much I enjoy decoupled, component-led architectures, and so I moved to Appnovation to gain a broader level of experience working with these modern techniques.I'm passionate about learning and have a wide range of interests, so I struggled to settle on just one discipline whilst studying at Durham University! I graduated with a BSc (2:1 Hons) in Natural Sciences and a Certificate (2:1 Hons) in Software Engineering.Beyond work, I enjoy tinkering with my own website 👩💻 (https://theadhocracy.co.uk), photographing wildlife 📷, and performing with Drum Works 🥁 (http://drumworks.co.uk/).

Senior Frontend DeveloperAppnovation Jun 2022 - Jul 2024Greater London, England, United KingdomWorking as part of the global Creative Technology team, with a focus on projects in the NA and EMEA regions. Specifically hired as a Jamstack and accessibility specialist, helping to advise clients on all aspects of front-end development, from performance to content modelling.Largely operated on mixed teams of designers, UX and QA specialists, and other developers, across a range of projects from enterprise-scale rebuilds, to greenfield design systems, to rapidly ideated proofs of concept (POCs).Whilst the tech stack I worked with would typically be comprised of common Jamstack tools and services – including Next.js, Sanity.io, Contentful, Storybook, Chromatic, and GraphQL – as a Senior consultant I was often asked to get involved outside my immediate comfort zone. In that remit, I've worked on a number of Drupal builds (both legacy and current), audited several AEM architectures, and was a key member of a team that created a bespoke AI/LLM-backed GUI for medical data analysis, using a mixture of Python, React, and Supabase, on top of both Google Gemini and Anthropic's Claude AI.Built out a range of internal POCs testing various modern tech stacks against each other, with the aim to determine which situation would benefit most from each. These included Astro, Eleventy (11ty), Remix (React), and SvelteKit builds, all with a Sanity.io backend and modern developer tooling (Prettier, ESLint, TypeScript). Detailed analysis and developer guidance was then shared with the wider business through a presentation, Q&A session, and an in-depth written report.Developed our company documentation around accessibility, including maintaining up-to-date legal guidance for the EU, Canada, UK, and US. Information is detailed in an internal Confluence wiki, as well as being presented to teams across the business via remote learning sessions and presentations. -
Frontend Developer (Mid)Stech Technology Jun 2020 - Jun 2022London, England, United KingdomWorked as part of a small team to develop and support several critical front end codebases. We used a highly decoupled architecture, allowing rapid ideation and more atomised testing. The bulk of our business logic and data manipulation was done within Next.js, using a combination of Next's Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR) and hydration to ensure that we were able to deliver a dynamic user experience in the most performant way possible.Data ingestion took place in a separate Apollo GraphQL instance, which we maintained, creating schemas as necessary and routinely integrating new REST APIs or third-party services.During 2021, I led a greenfield project to abstract our UI layer into a new Design System, known internally as Supernova. This was created in close collaboration with the Design Team, and provided an almost complete visual refresh for our main brand, Space Casino, alongside introducing some much-requested features, such as dark mode/theme support. In order to work as seamlessly as possible with our existing codebases, Supernova was built in React, utilising Storybook for quick prototyping and long-term documentation, and was made available via npm for easy integration. Our test suite included React Testing Library for unit tests; Cypress for end-to-end testing; and Chromatic for UI snapshot testing of Supernova. As a team, we would take it in turns to review each other codes, whilst managing deployment via a combination of GitHub workflows and Vercel integrations to ensure that work was thoroughly tested before hitting production. We also worked in close partnership with the back end developers, QA, product owners, and designers, using a form of Scrumban that included fortnightly sprints and retrospectives, as well as sprint planning/tracking via Jira and Confluence. -
Frontend DeveloperTalent Point Jun 2019 - Jun 2020London, United KingdomAlongside my role as Content Manager, I also worked as Talent Point's resident Frontend Developer. In that context I oversaw a company rebranding process at the end of 2019, working with senior management and a third-party design agency to create a bold new vision for Talent Point. That included building an entirely new website as part of a small team using Jamstack technologies. The core site used ReactJS/Gatsby and integrated with our headless instance of Craft CMS using a bespoke GraphQL endpoint, as well as HubSpot and SendGrid for data capture.Working from static mockups delivered via Zeplin and InVision, I created reusable UI components, which were tested across all major browsers and designed to be fully accessible, responsive, and mobile optimised. These were version controlled using Git/GitHub and deployed via a CI pipeline to Netlify. We launched the new website (link below) in December 2019 and continued to add new functionality and enhancements in line with business needs.Additionally, I looked after several other microsites and internal web tools, enhancing or debugging these as necessary. That included:• an internal company portal, built in ReactJS with a bespoke database/API layer running on PostgreSQL and deployed to Heroku, which I helped to create;• adding new reporting features to a fully bespoke application that enables easy data transfer to our CRM, built in Ruby with Sinatra and also hosted on Heroku;• sunsetting a WordPress website that was previously integrated with our CRM;• the installation and setup of Craft CMS, which required a full data migration from our legacy CMS;• managing HTML emails via SendGrid;• creation of the Growable brand and website (see UI Engineer at Growable role for more details). Finally, as part of our internal Tech Team I helped advise senior stakeholders on technical decisions and our roadmap for new features, services, and web tools. -
Content ManagerTalent Point Dec 2018 - Jun 2020London, United KingdomManaged the content team, overseeing the creation of blog posts, social media content, case studies, whitepapers, web copy, video content, and newsletters, all of which built into our general marketing strategy and helped to define the Talent Point brand.Internally, our main focus was on creating, editing and proofreading Campaign Briefs. These provided informative and highly-detailed deep-dives into the roles that were being offered and formed a core part of the Talent Point product offering. We also provided support to the Delivery teams for crafting job adverts, InMails and data-driven market reports for our customer base. From a managerial perspective, my role focused on overseeing these activities, moderating our Trello backlog, defining writing standards/processes, and generally ensuring that the team had the support and resources that they needed. I also performed standard line-management duties (holiday approval, personal development plans, performance reviews, induction, hiring interviews etc.).During 2019, I helped the company create a new meetup brand (Growable) as well as advised on a full company rebrand for Talent Point. Whilst my main role in both processes was on the technical/development front, as Content Manager I also provided insight into brand tone and created copy for the final websites, advised on product overhauls, and designed associated marketing material. As a team, we oversaw the rollout of the new Talent Point brand from the start of 2020. That involved rebranding all company assets and documentation, whilst building a new design library and creating content guidelines for internal use moving forward. We also launched a new newsletter, Talent Point of View. -
CopywriterTalent Point Jun 2018 - Dec 2018London, United KingdomAs a Writer, my main duties were to create, edit the information we provide about the roles that we offer; what we call Campaign Briefs. These give applicants a thorough overview of the company, day-to-day tasks/expectations, and what career growth they can expect from the role, so they're much more valuable than your average job description!I began improving the general user experience of our company website and reinvigorated our company blog. To that end, I actively sourced, curated and wrote a wide range of blog posts, based either on industry trends or analysis of our in-house market-data (a lot of these are now offline due to the company rebrand, but you can read some of my favourite pieces from the new site below ⬇️).I was also a founding member of our internal Tech Team, with a focus on front-end application support. Our first project was the launch of a ReactJS internal company hub/portal. -
Ui EngineerGrowable May 2019 - Jun 2020London, United KingdomHelped advise on the creation of Growable's brand identity, working with a third-party graphic designer to provide direction on initial logo and website mockups. Once these were approved, worked alongside a second developer to build the new website. My role was to convert the static designs we had been given into dynamic, reusable, mobile-first ReactJS/Gatsby components. That included defining responsive breakpoints and testing across all modern browsers, as well as some work with React Storybook.I integrated the site with our CMS (headless Craft) via a GraphQL endpoint, creating the necessary page templates to populate events, user information, and video playlists. The site was launched in May 2019 on Netlify. Since then I have helped expand functionality, including adding maps to events using LeafletJS and integrating event pages with CityMapper and Google Maps to provide users with easy location guidance. On the content side, I oversaw the creation of various HTML email templates in SendGrid for use with event notifications, registration confirmation, and newsletters, as well as working with the Content Team to manage Growable's social channels, Meetup community page, and create additional graphic assets as needed. For the first eight months, I was also the primary videographer and editor, attending meetups and events to film key speakers and Q&A sessions using a multi-camera setup. Audio was captured using a combination of lavalier and shotgun mics, depending on the event location. Videos were edited in Adobe Premiere Pro and Audition (when necessary) and can be viewed on the Growable website. As of Jan 2020 most video work was outsourced to a third-party in order to free up my time to focus on other business needs.Website: https://www.growable.io/ -
