I am Programme Leader for Leadership and Course Leader for Strategy and Developing Board Performance on the Chartered Director examined programme. I work closely with senior leadership within diverse SMEs and major companies including BP, KBR, Alstom, Costain, and Anglo-American. I also lead delivery of key programmes for Leeds Beckett and Salford Universities.

I deliver national/international business consultancy with boards and senior leadership of companies. My clients range between 50 to 50k employees and £20m to £40bn and assignments are varied but usually phrased in strategy, leadership and change terms by clients. Key clients include: a national oil company; Schindler; Philips; FoundOcean; Petrolia As part of this role, I have undertaken FTSE company external board evaluations (UK Corporate Governance Code) assessing board teams and processes.

I am a Senior Associate developing bespoke proposals and designing/delivering selection of tailored ‘In-Company’ programmes aimed at strengthening people and business performance. I work with major companies including Coca Cola, T Mobile, Alcatel, Nestle, and Schindler. Key programmes include:☛Designed ‘in company’ 3 x 3-day 18month Leadership Programme (including coaching/mentoring).☛Designed, developed and delivered 5-day Leadership Teams programme.☛Designed, developed and delivered 3-day Business Strategy programme.☛Choice consultant for Philips for the ‘Sense & Simplicity’ strategic change programme.

Having joined Subsea as Head of Commercial & Operations (see below) I moved into shareholder/advisory role in 2013 to act as a specialist sounding board utilising commercial and operational experience.

I was brought onto board of this Marine Engineering company by the Chairman to add improved governance and direction to an operational and hands-on board

I joined Subsea Infrastructure, a global desalination business, as Head of Commercial & Operations (and shareholder). Subsequently moved into advisory role in 2013 (see above). Key achievements include: ☛Established business model and provided start-up support in commercial, project and operations. ☛Developed technical and engineering platforms, including operating policies and procedures including ISO9001 and ISO14001. ☛Project managed build and commissioning of a €20m CAPEX desalination plant in industry record time.☛Operated Cyprus plant during first year of water production and presented technical and commercial papers and chaired at international water conferences.

Global Marine Systems was a B2B telecom infrastructure engineering business. I returned from China to parent company board, responsible for restructuring 4 directorates into one. I was ultimately made Commercial Director of ‘super-directorate’ leading 6 direct reports with ~20 line managers and ~100staff. Key achievements include:☛Initially grew business from £260m to £580m in 3 years despite board and people role being complicated by 3 CEOS in 4 years and company sale. ☛Directed company during dot.com crash era. Halved size of company with 2000+ people released. ☛Chaired Risk Committee and CAPEX Committee for 4 years (£80m average annual expenditure).☛Managed solvent UK company, customers and supply chain with US parent in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

I relocated to Shanghai to start-up this Cable & Wireless strategic joint venture (200 people/$12m), transforming Chinese ‘state owned’ culture into company able to compete internationally. Key achievements include:☛Established L&D programmes with partners including CEIBS, Shanghai and Henley Business School. ☛Designed and introduced ‘locally sensitive’ appraisal system, completely restructuring organisation to address salary, banding and performance system (+400 people and $85m in 3 years). ☛Secured personal award from Chinese government in 2000.
