Manager LAN Operations Central RegionAs the group's leader, my responsibilities included managing the network design, testing, installation, integration, problem solving, and support.Design an automated desktop/internetwork console system to provide turnkey network management and administrative outsourcing services for ISM clients. The objective was to implement a series of discrete tools which when integrated together would provide a complete picture of the network and its’ attached devices. I was project manager for two yearsCompleted the design/management of the integration of all central region ISM personnel and systems into the new central region head quarters at Consumers Road. Involved over 2000 LAN connects and a diverse set of network architectures and protocols.Maintained and support a wide area network for a major ISM client. The network consisted of 20 (growing to 40) Cisco routers, in a star design with three major centers across Canada. The network had Novell IPX/SPX, DECNET and LAT, SNA and NetBIOS all operating with approximately 600 users. Operated the network for a period of 9 months during installation and implementation.On behalf of a project for an Ontario government ministry I developed and documented methods and procedures for large scale field reviews of PC/LAN and related technologies.As the foundation for all vendor and product testing programs, I implemented benchmark and evaluation procedures based on proven Kepner-Tregeo Decision Analysis modeling systems.As project manager, I successfully delivered a 5-year LAN/WAN strategic plan for a large public sector corporation that will integrate multiple 3270, Novell and UNIX based systems across an SNA network.

In 1985 I went into consulting with a business associate. We started out as computer consultants specializing in communications between Microcomputers and Mainframes, as well as training end users to use various software packages. For six months we sold computer systems and trained customers in MS/PC DOS, Lotus and Network systems (Novell, 3COM, Corvus Omninet/Constellation). The courses were written by my partner and me. After six months we were contacted by a third party who wanted to invest in the company and expand the operation into a full store outlet. By the beginning of 1986, we had a store front in downtown Hamilton, Ont. with authorized dealerships in Olivetti, Epson, Hewlett Packard and Commodore. We sold networking systems by Novell and 3COM. At the end of 1987 with a store setup and running I felt that a retail outlet was not what I want to devote my energies.
