I am currently employed in South Dublin County Partnership as a Community Employment Supervisor. These programmes were established by the Irish Government to offer long term unemployed persons the opportunity to retrain and upskill in order to enhance their ability to return to full-time employment. It is a career where one can give people the skills and confidence to make a difference in their lives and as a bonus it is enjoyable and rewarding in so many ways.I had the great honour to serve in Óglaigh na hÉireann (Irish Permanent Defence Forces), retiring after 31 years service in August 2009. I held appointments which covered all aspects of command, operations, administration, logistics and training. These appointments covered many disciplines from operational command, man management (HR), transport administration, stores and logistics administration, training administration etc. Duties included personal management/counselling and supervision of records management and data entry. Acted as part of interview panels to select candidates for service in the Defence Forces.I was also involved in Training and Development at unit and Brigade level. I was responsible for the planning, preparation, conduct and supervision of various military courses across several disciplines (weapons, tactical training, driving instruction, leadership etc.). I also conducted Training Need Assessments at unit level.I have also had the honour and privilege to have served overseas on several missions in Irish Contingents with the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces.
