I have the pleasure of leading a fantastic team and together we have overhauled Nexen's Loss Management and Optimisation activities. Widely regarded by our industry peers as Best in Class for these activities, we have driven a significant culture change to ensure offshore and onshore ownership of reducing unplanned losses. Current focus is on enhancing our optimisation and increasing our awareness of risks and vulnerabilities.

I am working within the Plant Optimisation Team with specific responsibilities for developing an effective and sustainable culture of reducing production losses. Our aim is to move from a process of Loss Reporting to an embedded approach of Loss Reduction. Working across all of Nexen’s UK assets, this role includes: developing greater ownership from the offshore teams for Loss Reduction; improving the quality of RCA’s and investigations; ensuring that corrective actions are effective; and developing a consistent monthly cycle of loss reduction activities.To support these objectives, I am leading the development of an integrated Loss Reduction tool, and a Production Health Dashboard that identifies future risks to operations. This is my first involvement with Nexen, and is very refreshing. A dynamic and vibrant company, with some great tools and approaches.

Working with the Operations Team at BP Jordan to introduce the concepts of Operations Excellence to the National Petroleum Company (NPC). I am working closely with NPC Ops and Driling teams at the Risha Gas field.In addition to improving operations behaviours I am also helping NPC to drive production efficiency and link their extensive operational experience with accepted international standards.As part of this we are implementing a Control of Work process, developing procedures and risk assessments, and enhancing overall HSSE behaviours.Working closely with the NPC team to engage them around the need to change through developing good working relationships and gaining their trust. A fascinating and rewarding project.

Grangemouth, Scotland

We have been working with the team at Polimeri on an Operations Excellence programme linked to Vocational Qualifications. This is being delivered in partnership with FVC. Based on the success of the original phase we were asked at the start of 2012 to expand the programme to include all personnel at the Grangemouth plant.

Falkirk, Scotland

I have been working with the team at ADL in Falkirk to deliver a sustainable culture of continuous improvement. We have partnered with Forth Valley College (FVC) to provide a high quality improvement process linked to Vocational Qualifications. We plan to have in excess of 200 people achieving Level 2 & 3 VQ's. Working closely with Management, Union, and Workforce we are enjoying a great deal of success.

Current main engagement is with BP Exploration in Aberdeen as their main coach for the Production Efficiency Improvement common process. This involves implementing the PEI toolset and coaching all North Sea operations teams in effectively reducing production losses. Responsibility for offshore platforms, onshore oilfields and terminals across the NS and supporting the team in Norway. Also provide support to the Global team. Focus is on embedding the correct behaviours that help identify the causes of loss and then take the correct actions to remove those causes. A very large production prize that is common to all operators.

This role was to introduce Operations Excellence behaviours to the Turkish operating company (BIL) that operated the Turkish section of the BTC pipeline. This 1700km crude oil pipeline runs from Baku to the Ceyhan terminal on the Med coast, the Turkish section was the longest (1000km) and the most challenging. Working across all 4 main pump stations, the Ceyhan terminal and with BP & BIL leadership in Ankara we were able to introduce OE behaviours to the Turkish operating teams. This project also involved us designing and implementing our Process Upset Reporting tool for this sector to enable the teams to capture process upsets and track the investigations and improvement actions. The web tool also enables full visibility across the Turkish stations and with BP leadership in Baku.

As a result of the succesful programme at Grangemouth I was asked to work with the team in Algeria to implement an Operations Excellence programme. This was on a joint venture operation between BP, Statoil, and Sonatrach and consisted of five distinct operational sites located in the Sahara desert. At the time ISG was BP's flagship gas production facility in Algeria. As a brand new facility the challenge was to embed OE behaviours to help the Algerian team maintain their high operating efficiency and great safety performance. Working almost entirely with the national workforce we were able to create a sustainable behaviour change and develop internal champions that still drive the culture. This lead to the introduction of OPL's core OE products.

I worked with the Grangemouth Leadership Team to support them as they worked to embed Operations Excellence behaviours across the entire complex. This included designing and implementing a suitable approach that would engage workers from the Refining, Chemicals and Upstream parts of the business. I was there in my capacity as a consultant with OPL Group.
