Academic Foundation Senior House Officer. • Problem identification, solution structuring and execution of lab-based research into the role of liver-cell amino acid transporters in Severe Alcoholic Hepatitis.• Project identified key potential targets for drug discovery with significant potential market value.Research 4 months -I am part of Professor Mark Thursz's research group looking into molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of Severe Alcoholic Hepatitis focussing on an amino acid transporter called SLC38A4.I used CRISPR technology to create human hepatic cell line (huh7) knockouts of SLC38A4 using western blotting and qPCR to identify true knockouts. I developed skills in cell culture, radioactive amino acid transport assays and further qPCR techniques to assay the effects of knockout.
