Theoretical and Experimental analysis of an improved inclined solar still with baffle plates.Experimental studies Carried out on the ISSwBP for enhancing its performance. The baffles placed in the inclined solar still acts as a solar collector which helps in increasing the contact time with solar radiation thereby raising the saline water temperature. Experiments are carried out during winter and early summer climate of Chennai, India. Experimental parameters, such as ambient temperature, solar radiation, glass temperature, water temperature and distillate output are recorded. Hourly productivity is found to be higher during sunny days. The estimated production of fresh water through analytical study is 3.50 kg/m² day for a minimum mass flow rate of 0.0833 kg/min. The actual experimental yield is 2.793kg/m² day. Also, the inlet saline water temperature affects the yield and the latter is found to be highest at 48.5°C. Theoretical studiesAnalysis of solar still improved with baffle plates for producing fresh water. The analysis are carried out with different mass flow rates namely, mf = 0.001388, 0.002766, 0.0055 and 0.0069 kg/sec respectively and at an inlet water temperature (Tin) of 32ºC. The analysis revealed that production of fresh water is highest with minimum mass flow rate of mf = 0.001388 kg/sec. Also, introduction of baffle plates enables better absorption of the solar intensity which will in turn heat up the water to higher temperature. The accumulated yield of fresh water produced increased up to 74% with a mass flow rate of mf = 0.001388 kg/sec compared to 0.0069 kg/sec.

Air conditioning in single engine HelicopterThe design of air-conditioning system has been studied for a military Helicopter and it has been modelled to for specification for comfort at higher altitudes and at sea level. The boundary conditions were provided from initial iterations (Ex. Mass Flow Rate) by virtue of manual calculations using standard gas dynamics formulae. We used Uni-graphics software for modelling the heat exchangers and few other parts in the air-conditioning system. Initially the requirements of the environmental condition were present, including few constrictions such as engine bleed air and property of the working fluid in critical conditions.Vapour Compression Cycle would be preferable for cooling processes as it did not require engine bleed air, we initially preferred designing an air conditioning system based on vapour compression cycle. But since it had some difficulties in arrangements and weight criteria we had to opt to another air conditioning principle.From the requirements of comfortable environment, heating will be required at higher negative temperatures. This requirement leads us to choose the air cycle principle as our major working cycle since it takes care of heating & cooling. On the basis of the heat rejection and space available we had to design an air conditioning system with compact heat exchangers within the specified Number of Transfer Units. Different analogies and theories were applied to obtain the required design of the heat exchangers.
