As OiC, I'm responsible for day-to-day operations of the Branch. The key responsibilities include: leading, coordinating and initiating policy analysis work on the link between productive capacities and sustainable development; developing modalities, guidelines and frameworks for undertaking country-specific and regional Productive Capacities Gap Passements (NPCGA); articulating comparative advantages and binding constraints to economic growth and development as well as proposing alternative policies and strategies for action at the national, regional and global levels. The principal objective is to relive key binding constraints to development through fostering economy-wide productive capacities. Further responsibilities include: leading and coordinating technical and statistical work related to the UNCTAD Productive Capacities Index (PCI) including periodic reviews and updates; devising strategies for the use of the PCI in policy formulation and implementation; identifying potential sectors of economic growth, trade and sustainable development; seeking the best ways and means to sustainably harness such resources for socioeconomic development; developing projects and mobilizing extra-budgetary resources for their implementation; and maintaining relations with the UNCTAD Regional Centres of Excellence on substantive and technical work of the Branch.

As head of Landlocked Developing Countries' (LLDCs) section, which deals with trade and development prospects , opportunities and challenges facing 32 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, my principal duties include: leading the work of the section and providing policy guidance on trade and development interests of LLDCs; Managing, supervising and carrying out the work programme of the section on LLDCs pursuant to defined mandates and priorities; Providing substantive and technical inputs for research and policy papers on development challenges, prospects and opportunities for LLDCs; Coordinating and contributing to follow-up activities for the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action for Landlocked for the decade 2014-2024; Developing tools and indicators for monitoring, benchmarking and assessing the degree of productive capacities and structural transformation in selected LLDCs; Conceptualizing, organizing and servicing intergovernmental bodies; -Monitoring and analysing progress in the multilateral trade negotiations, in particular with regard to trade facilitation, the work programme on small economies and other issues that affect the effective participation of LLDCs in the global trading system; Providing advisory services to Government officials of LLDCs and transit developing countries on issues in the area of transit transport, trade facilitation and issues related to the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action for LLDCs

Head the UNCTAD New York Office and manage the day to day operations of the Office; represent UNCTAD and when necessary the Secretary-General of UNCTAD in the various United Nations Forums in New York; participate in Inter-agency Consultative Mechanisms and intergovernmental meetings; engage in the United Nations processes especially in the field of international trade and development by sharing the research and policy analysis work of UNCTAD; and report to the Office of the Secretary-General (OSG).

Overseeing the day to day functions of the Section; undertaking substantive and technical work in support of the trade and development prospects of Small Island Developing States (SIDS); formulating and implementing technical cooperation and capacity building activities in support of SIDS; providing substantive and technical support to intergovernmental deliberations on trade and development issues of interest to SIDS and providing advisory services on issues related to productive capacities and structural economic transformation

Policy analysis on where least developed countries and their development partners stand, in a given time, in implementing internationally agreed commitments, goals and targets; examine the impact of external shocks such as the recent global financial and economic crises as well as the volatility of international commodity prices on poverty reduction in low income countries such as LDCs, SIDS and LLDCs; Prepare substantive background documents for the deliberations of the annual sessions of the General Assembly, ECOSOC and the Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD on issues of thematic and sectoral concern to least developed countries; formulate and implement capacity building projects in beneficiary countries on issues, including poverty reduction, trade policy reform, commodities and productive capacity building in low income countries; and provide policy advise to member States and organizing expert meetings-both in Geneva and in the field on sectoral and thematic issues of trade and development.
