(Precision Low Speed Motor Controller)-Secured funding through various grants and competitions.

In August 2021, The TCRP ANP kicked off with an intensive boot camp week, convening an inclusive cohort of highly skilled university student and alumni entrepreneurs from around the country at the Tech Center Research Park. The development of this program prioritized collaboration with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), intentional community creation, and passion-led projects to inspire long-term investment from the participants and the instructors. Mr. Johnson explained, “We made strategic decisions around creating this community that involved bringing th3e group together in a safe way (per CDC guidelines). This cohort is moving the NASA technology forward by finding the intersection of technology, purpose, and passion.

MITTIC is a higher education spinoff challenge established to develop new ideas for commercialization by seeking concept papers from multidisciplinary student teams enrolled at a Minority Serving Institution (MSI). Teams choose one NASA Intellectual Property (IP) from a provided list and submit concept papers explaining commercial viability of the proposed idea using the MITTIC challenge guidelines. After competitive review, 10 teams are selected to participate in a “SpaceTank” competition at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The winning team of the competition will attend an onsite immersive experience at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley, California. The teams visit, tour and present to industry Silicon Valley technology companies, small businesses, NASA partners and leadership. The experience exposes participants to research facilities, start-up companies and provides the opportunity to discuss further concept development. MITTIC also provides selected MITTIC students to receive a paid NASA internship funded by MUREP.

As a student of the L'SPACE NASA Proposal Writing and Evaluation Experience (NPWEE) Academy, I was teamed with 14 other university students and NASA professionals to write a New Technology Report (NTR) on an original design. This experience demonstrated to me the effort that goes into creating new technology and the process in which many engineers spend their careers. Through my leadership role, I enhanced my communication skills, learned about team dynamics, and improved my engineering skills.
