Artist. Creative Entrepreneur. Leader. Music came easily to me and performing gave me a rush, so I decided to make a career out of music.Between 2004-2008 I tried to break into the Kenyan music scene, but I kept being told that my music was not Kenyan enough and that there wasn't space in the main stream for an artist like me. It seemed to me that the identity issues were really a lack of imagination, so instead of listening, I established a regular night featuring me in a little dive bar in Nairobi. When that gig stopped making financial sense, two friends helped me re-imagine the circumstances and the result is East Africa's premier Music festival Blankets & Wine which operates in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. In 2015 we founded the annual multi-disciplinary arts & music festival Africa Nouveau. Parallel to the journey of the festivals has been my own career as a singer & touring performer.To date, I have produced 3 full length projects and 1 EP (The Human Condition 2009, Welcome to the disco 2011, MDQ 2014, SHE 2018) I am also an an alum of One Beat music program and a touring artist (58 dates in 2019 alone) My experience with making music, touring + running the festivals gives me a unique understanding of the whole music value chain, and as a result I was invited to be a TED fellow in 2019. I used the platform to make a case for the creative sector as the true manufacturing industry for Africa in its immediate future. My perspective combined with my bias for doing has led me to start perFORM music incubator - a space to Filter, Order, Refine and Master business & performance skills for musicians in Africa on one hand, as well as develop the skill set in the music ecosystem, namely: Artist management, artist PR & communication, sound & light technicians, songwriters, music producers & composers and event organizers I live multiple, interconnected lives and oscillate between my own experiences and the those of fellow creators, curators and fans. My passion is to develop the potential of the creative sector in Africa, and enable creators access their highest creativity in all its forms. I am super dope. ArtistMuthoni Drummer Queen 2008 - PresentNairobi, KenyaSinger, rapper and drummer from Nairobi, Kenya.Muthoni continues to be part of an artistic collaboration with Swiss beat-making duo Greg “GR!” Escoffey and Jean “Hook” Geissbuhler. The production duo has been creating together since 2010, making beats for Swiss and French artists and legends. Since 2013, the collaborators have produced two albums MDQ (2014) and SHE (2018) and made waves through airplay of radio and playlists, as well as performances at major European festivals such as Les Vieilles Charrues (F), Les Transmusicales de Rennes (F), Montreux Jazz (CH), Eurosonic (NL), Esperanzah (BE), WOMAD (GB), Reeperbahn (NL), Paléo (CH), Montreal Jazz Festival (CAN) and were named best act, Romandie at the national Swiss Music Awards in 2020.Discography:2008: Mambo Bado (EP)2009: Human Condition (LP)2013/4: MDQ (LP)2017/8- SHE (release March 2018)
