About Manuel Villa

Data journalist, The Seattle Times Investigations team. After 11 years working in the financial industry, first in Tokyo and later in New York, in 2016 Manuel Villa left finance and entered the masters program in investigative journalism at Columbia Journalism School. Following graduation, he was selected as the first Neo4j data journalism fellow at the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, where he worked on the The Paradise Papers—a project so confidential he was only informed about it when he first set foot in the ICIJ facilities.After The Paradise Papers, Manuel was a data journalism fellow at The Marshall Project, where he worked in a long-term investigation and analysis of the prison population reduction policies implemented in California during the last decade.
