Mikko is Faktabaari (FactBar) & NORDIS Co-Founder and EU Senior Advisor to LUT University. At EU and Nordic -level he contributes primarily to EDMO NORDIS (Nordic Observatory for Digital Media and Information Disorder), to expert groups on tackling online information disorders and supporting integrity in elections.In 2014 Mikko started the multi awarded (Chydenius, Bonnier, Europcom, TJNK) fact-checking service Faktabaari, to bring accuracy to the election debates. Since he has worked with (journalism) schools, media educators, scientists, administrators and voluntary crowds for highly pedagogical and engaging Faktabaari, Debattibaari, NewsBeez media innovation concepts. Related he has e.g. served as independent expert to European Commission’s High-Level Group on Fake News and Online disinformation while involved in projects such as FactBar EDU developing digital information literacy toolkits to empower teachers and future voters critical thinking and election participation. Mikko has addressed audiences in more than 20 countries in 4 continents. Mikko is also Senior Advisor to LUT University on EU affairs and volunteers for several projects including journalistic associations, foundations and start-ups. He is long-term Chair to Finnish transparency NGO in charge of Faktabaari with positions of trust both nationally and internationally. Mikko professional life is characterized by more than 25 years in the intersection between EU institutions, it’s member states and public good organisations. This includes versatile experience from four EU institutions, national ministries, universities, associations, start-ups and media. He is recognised as independent EU expert and strategic advocate of transparency and accountability with special sectoral knowledge in sustainability, energy, climate and digital solutions next to generic R&I and communication experience. He is experienced manager, trainer and public speaker with multi-cultural and language skills gained by living, working and travelling globally. He has degrees in international relations and in multidisciplinary European studies with networks from top European universities.
