I’m a creative engineer and entrepreneur passionate about deep-technology products that are radically inventive and challenge the status quo. My passion has produced industry contributions that cut across diverse fields, including multiple branches of photonics, optics, multiple branches of medicine, DNA genotyping and molecular diagnostics, instrumentation, nanotechnology, data communications, distributed computing, heavy industry, control systems engineering, national defense, and aeronautics. These contributions are accompanied by 60 issued US patents that over 200 companies have licensed and that I invented as an entrepreneur--not at an R&D institute. To amplify my effectiveness, I studied disruptive innovation at Stanford graduate school as a nontraditional student, earning a graduate certificate in entrepreneurial leadership in 2022 (GPA: 4.15). I earlier completed an extended professional development program at Stanford, conferring a professional certificate in innovation and entrepreneurship.Serious Patent-Law Chops:Patent protection sits at the center of my brand of deep-tech innovation. To develop this aspect of my work, I became registered to practice patent law exclusively before the US Patent Office in 2003. I have lived what learned IP experts write scholarly articles about. This includes personally going toe-to-toe with giant corporations; prevailing over patent infringement accusations; resolving inventorship disputes; defending patent validity against serial post-grant attacks at the USPTO; and litigating 18 of my patents in federal and appellate courts.My firsthand experience further includes: developing and implementing patent strategies for protecting breakthrough inventions globally; US and foreign patent prosecution; freedom to operate analyses; licensing; tech transfer; etc. I have served as Lead Counsel in 13 trials at the US Patent Trails and Appeals Board adverse to Microsoft and Facebook. I singlehandedly represented the family of a deceased inventor in patent reexamination proceedings adverse to Costco, Walmart, and Walgreens and upheld validity of all patent claims.
