In July 2021, I have completed my MChem degree at Loughborough University and was awarded a 1st class degree. I was also awarded a diploma in industrial studies for my year long placement at Reckitts. I am currently undertaking a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Southampton. My research is focused on the development of hybrid catalytic systems which can convert carbon dioxide into commercially useful fuels. In the summer of 2019, I undertook a research project focusing on the synthesis, characterisation and utilization of copper catalysts. This project was funded by the Loughborough University School of Science. Before this, I have completed a yearlong placement at Reckitts where I had the opportunity to work in the Gaviscon R&D team as a formulation Chemist. The year in industry has allowed me to develop further a plethora of skills, gain hands on experience in industry and witness first hand how various categories such as R&D, supply, quality and marketing link together to deliver a successful product onto the market.Throughout my time at University I have won an accolade of awards such as the 'Most Engaged Student' and 'Chemistry Progression Part A and Part B Prize' and 'MChem Finalist Prize' for achieving the highest results in my year. I also have had the opportunity to become a Programme President which allowed me to represent the views of my fellow students. Such a prestigious position enabled me to shape change within the course which translated to an improvement in the student experience at the University. I also held a role as a Peer Mentor Student Coordinator which saw me coordinate a highly dedicated group of Peer Mentors that supported first-year students during their transition to the University. During my third and fourth year, I was also a School of Science Student Helper and took part in various University open days and applicant visit days. In my final year, I obtained the status of a Registered Scientist (RSci).
