About Mwaniki Nyaga

I spent my youth cycling, making conversation with trees and tinkering with computers. After gliding through the Kenyan public school system relatively unscathed, I landed straight into a quarter life crisis that was aggravated by a pandemic, a crashing global economy, and a collapsing job market. Thankfully, plenty of existential questions later, I thought it fair to take a chance on my creative self.Having practiced research-driven storytelling with UNICEF and AIESEC alongside receiving academic training in Computer Science at the University of Nairobi, it felt right to take both disciplines to the next level. After graduating, I committed to following an undefined path towards becoming a multidisciplinary artist. I am exercising my talents through consulting on work that exists at the intersection of research, design and storytelling; equal parts art and science. I am currently a full-time design consultant at Spindle Design, an innovation, design and strategy consulting firm that believes in putting people first and solving for real felt needs.Given the unprecedented shock I received when stepping out of sheltered student life, I have been volunteering my time with KamiLimu in a bid to hold the ladder up to those who come after me. At KamiLimu, we provide structured mentorship for tech-aligned students who seek lessons and opportunities, outside the classroom, for global competitiveness. When I am not enjoying solving complicated problems, you may find me cycling, talking to trees or creating content for mwanikinyaga.com. At the moment, I am a local in Nairobi but I seek to relocate to a slow, peaceful and less restricted environ; possibly a forest dwelling.
