As the Special Programs Coordinator, I work directly with the Vice President to carry out the mission of the entire Student Affairs Division. Specific projects I am responsible for include: development of all orientation programming; developing and administering an intentional leadership development program for students; completing various research projects that compare our policies to those of our peer institutions; planning and coordination of a Scholarship & Fellowship Fair that showcases a number of prestigious scholarships (including the Rhodes, Luard, Boren, and Rangel) with the specific goal of increasing the number of students who attain these awards, as well as other related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Under the general supervision and guidance of the Vice President for Student Affairs, I coordinate all aspects of the fall and spring New Student Orientation, including but not limited to:• Oversight for all print and online orientation materials, including the NSO website, virtual orientation, New Student Guide, and related communications.• Coordination of specific session of orientation for targeted populations, including international students, First Time in College (FTIC) students, transfer students, etc.• Train and supervise student staff that consists of a graduate assistant, 25 Orientation Leaders, and two additional undergraduate support staff student workers• Work closely with a number of key university offices to arrange program logistics (i.e., room reservations, check-in materials, information booth, resource fair, catering). I work directly with students on a daily basis and advise them on a wide range of issues, including campus, community, and personal challenges. I also facilitate a number of workshops for student leaders and plan conferences and other special programs for the Division.
