About Mya Thompson

Educator. Scientist. Instructional Designer. Author.Currently the Co-Director for Engagement in Science and Nature at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology—where we're empowering people through education and participatory science so that together we can gain insight into how natural systems work and address global conservation challenges. Creator of the eLearning platform Bird Academy and producer of educational games including Flap to the Future (a top ten game on BrainPOP's GameUp) and BeastBox (your chance to become a wildlife DJ). Track record in science education as a teacher, instructional designer, multimedia producer, curriculum developer, and author. Earned a PhD in Neurobiology and Behavior from Cornell University for research on elephant conservation and communication. As a National Science Foundation teaching fellow, partnered with high school teachers to bring authentic science experiences into classrooms. Authored eBooks in the My First Science series for the Booksy reading app with over 700,000 downloads.
