About Myka Curtis

Growing up I would place myself in positions where I would make long-lasting change. I did not always make the right move and other times I would surprise myself. Setbacks do not discourage me. In fact, they present a challenge and an opportunity to learn. I will reflect, ask for feedback, and approach my next challenge with careful consideration. My resilience is credited to my need to protect my community. I thrive in high pressure environments where I have to make decisions quickly. I will observe and adapt to my working environment. If I can improve a system, I enjoy collaborative efforts in moving towards efficient results that have wide-reaching benefits. Ideally, I would like to be in a working environment where I put all my skills and education into use through observing the relationship between people and the land. My goal is to improve the jurisdictional issues that Native communities face so that my community feels protected.

American Indian Law Center - Plsi May 2023 - Jul 2023
Albuquerque Metropolitan Area, New Mexico, United States
PLSI is an intensive two-month program that prepares American Indian and Alaska Native individuals for the rigors of law school by essentially replicating the first semester of law school. The PLSI concentrates its content into eight weeks of instruction, research and study, teaching students the unique methods of law school research, analysis, and writing. The success of the PLSI in providing a nationally respected pre-law orientation can be traced to its original and continuing intent — that it be based on sound legal education principles, and not function as a philosophical, political, or cultural training ground. For more than five decades, the Law Center has remained dedicated to providing valid training in the skills required for the study of law.My responsibilities as a teaching assistant include: 1. Counseling and teaching services to the participants in the 2023 PLSI; 2.
