Over several years, we grew from a few engineers working out of my house with no concrete business model to dozens of talented people in every functional area trailblazing new frontiers in mobile music, social media, and mobile advertising.Under my leadership, Myxer grew from zero to $10M in annual revenue, and served over 50 million users (over 15M monthly unique visitors) on our web, mobile web, and mobile application properties.When we started the company, we had a vision of an open mobile internet that simply did not exist in a world of incompatible devices and “walled gardens.” Strange as it seems today, at that time it was not commonly believed that mobile phones would become such profoundly empowering devices, or that they would be the next generation’s primary interface to the internet. There were simply too many daunting technical and institutional challenges. Myxer did encounter extremely difficult technical challenges, and met substantial resistance from powerful entrenched interests. But our foresight and persistence paid off, and I’m proud of the important role Myxer played in the democratization of the mobile internet that the world now all but takes for granted.(I was in the CTO role from 2005-2007)
