I conduct surveillance of adverse health outcomes related to drugs and alcohol using multiple real-time data sources. I am responsible for monitoring and analyzing syndromic and mortality datasets using R, SAS, Python, and Tableau. Key deliverables to which I contribute include data briefs, trend analysis reports, data standardization using statistical methods, and cluster investigations as needed. I am also a member of agency-wide workgroups aimed at dismantling health disparities related to race, gender, and socioeconomic inequities.

I analyzed and summarized hospitalization data and population surveys to anticipate the programmatic needs of my Bureau and develop data products to meet those needs. During COVID-19, I participated in the development of a data dashboard aimed at monitoring real-time mental health and substance use service utilization. I also monitored the impact of COVID-19 on the utilization of opioid treatment programs and created public-facing, weekly reports with these findings.

My team and I collaborate with health departments across 12 US states to develop evidence-based opioid use disorder intervention and treatment programs. My role is to facilitate data collection/analysis and enhance capacity for outbreak investigation, overdose surveillance and evaluation of prescription drug monitoring programs. Our work is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and lies within the Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Use Prevention, Care and Treatment.

Helped to advance multiple research projects in the field of mental health. Worked closely with Mozambique’s Ministry of Health to support the implementation of a country-wide system for outpatient mental health care.

Worked as part of a consulting team spearheading quantitative and qualitative research and developed policy recommendations for future interventions.
